What I have learned is this. Open a major folder, such as the main emailer folder. View it in list view. Then when you browse the sub-folders by clicking the triangles to view the contents, OS X does not add the DS_Store files to them, as there are no window settings, icon placements, etc in this view. Apparently, anytime a Window position is saved, or icon view saved, this is done in DS_Store. Folder - file - folder (toggle this with the triangle) -- subfolder file -- subfolder file -- subfolder ---- sub-subfolder file ---- sub-subfolder file ---- sub-subfolder file -file -file Like that....
