It is encoding the message so it can send it. Try changing your encoding method, maybe something has gone wrong with the plug in that handles encoding. Also, make sure you aren't compressing the attachment. It makes sense that it would fail at this stage if the file is in use. It needs to read the entire file so it can encode it. If another application has the file open for any reason, then Emailer can't read the whole file, and has to error out of the encoding process.
