Anyone else having trouble with Comcast cable modem service today? I
'sent' several emails before leaving for work this morning, and when I
got home this evening, they were all still in the outbox. All day long
CE 2.0v3 was trying to send them out, and error messages were being logged
every five minutes. For most of the day the errors were:

** SMTP server error “500 SMTP AUTH failed, can't authenticate”
** Couldn’t complete the last command because a network stream error
occurred.

Incoming mail was OK all day; my inbox was full this evening.

I use Chris's Baton Mail to send out email.

I've rebooted Classic--no help. I've rebooted my G5 (10.3.9)--no help.

After the rebooting, the error message has settled down consistently to
the following:

Preparing messages
Connecting to Internet using Account “Comcast”
   Sending mail using “127.0.0.1”
** Couldn’t complete the last command because a network stream error
occurred.

Any ideas? Could Comcast have changed something today that would
effectively shut done my SMTP service? I dread calling them and having to
explain that I happily use ancient Mac software.

Thanks, all.

Bob Fowler
