Trouble, resulting in Mail loss. I run Emailer v 2.0.3v1 under OS 10.3.9..... have for several months, no problem.
What *has* been happening: Awake computer from sleep, Classic is already running, Open Emailer, check and receive mail or Restart, and Classic again Opens. Then Open Emailer, etc. Then trouble happened: Classic already running after computer being asleep and reawakening computer. Attempted to open Emailer, which appeared to be happening , but when the Emailer file menu appeared it quickly dropped, and the menu reverted to show only the Finder. Attempted AGAIN to open Emailer, but Classic wasn't working and the "reload" box for Classic came up, then Classic reboot proceeded and finished. But when the Emailer menu reappeared, stayed up only a second or two, it then dropped from sight again. Over & over, the same..... some sort of corruption making impossible to run Emailer. Complete computer shutdown, wait and then Restart, didn't help. What to do? I wasn't smart enough to .... before doing anything else.... do a Save of the Mail Database & Mail Index. I fiddled, more and more. finally accomplishing a Force-Quit BEFORE the automatic redrop of Emailer. That didn't accomplish anything. Eventually, I put all of my precious Emailer Files... everything.... into the Trash, then used an Emailer Installer to reinstall Emailer. Somehow, though, I failed to ReInstall the Database and Mail Index files from the trashed Emailer, and they ARRGH ended up being emptied from the Trash. Bad !!!! I have have had to install an older, earlier copy of Mail Database and Index, losing a months emails. Not good. Along with that, I have had to contend with other querks caused by the reinstallation. Which brings me to what I'm asking here : Why, when I downloaded from my ISP server the new mail from yesterday and today, only *some* of it went into my In box, while *most* of it (including several downloaded Pictures) went into Temp Incoming.? How can I get those files to show up? They are each labelled Internet Incoming.#s such and such. Where can I transfer these filess so they'll show up, because I cannot open them as they are....... even though they *were* downloaded, and "read", they went into Temp Incoming instead of a viewable MailBox Folder. Does the fact that I had an Applescript running with the old Emailer .... one to put Potential Spam into a separate folder... for every sender address except those in my Address Book... have anything to do with it? What have I learned? It ain't fun to chase this stuff down. Do daily backups of emails. Thanks to anyone who takes time to read and trouble to reply to this woeful tale.
