>Emailer's Mail Database is not a text file. Yes but it's near as dammit a text file as far as TextEdit is concerned. The headers and text are perfectly readable - not compressed - and there's not much garbage in between messages. I've read through some 2.0v3 database files in TextEdit and the messages were perfectly readable and didn't give any problems other than sluggishness due to file size. There's no reason why you couldn't edit copies of the files - perhaps to split them into smaller chunks. But my point was that I should be able to find a specific message using Spotlight, provided that my search phrase is unique. (And most of my message headers have a unique order number or ticket number nowadays).
