I don't know why I have so much trouble with what should be a
simple process for backing up data - I was hoping it would be smooth
with my new machine, but I guess this process just wants to give me 
grief:(

I had trouble with inserting disks in my old machine so tended not
to use disks.  Now I have my new OSX I have finally got around to
backing up my Claris Emailer data/address book.  So I inserted
a previous backup disk and tried to drag the icons to the trash and it 
told me I don't have sufficient privileges to do that!   When i tried to
erase the disk it said it couldn't be modified.  nor is there an ERASE 
DISK
in the menu bar!

I do see "New Burn" and "New Smart Folder" - do these apply?
