I run two G4 towers in my home office. Both have OS9.2.2 and the latest
"Tiger" installed. Both are "dual bootable" (although I haven't booted
into OS9 for over a year). G4#1 has a 2 x 1GHz CPU and G4#2 was a 400MHz
upgraded with a Sonnet 1.4GHz CPU. G4#2 is used mostly for
recording/watching TV (ElGato EyeTV tuners) and camcorder work. I don't
use Classic very often on this one.

At bedtime I Stop Classic and Sleep OSX. The office is cool in the
morning when I return - indicating that not much power is being consumed
- except for Wednesdays when ChronoSync wakes up my #1 G4 at 5am and does
a full backup, leaving it on afterwards.

I shut down Classic each night because, if I don't, I get frequent
crashes from Classic Apps on subsequent days. It takes only 30 seconds to
restart Classic.

I have never defragmented a Hard Drive. I "Repair Permissions" before and
after installing any new software - ignoring the nagging "New software is
available..." window until I'm ready for it!

Safari occasionally "locks up" the computer completely. I've noticed that
this occurs mostly when Emailer begins its 20 minute schedule. That's the
only time I have to restart my computer.

In line with recent discussions, "SilverKeeper" had loads of problems
with Emailer's "Temp Incoming" and "Downloads" folders, which is why I
changed to "ChronoSync". "SilverKeeper" simply gave up. "ChronoSync"
seems to log but ignore any errors. Those two folders are jointly
responsible for many problems and it's best to empty them frequently.

I'm not suggesting that the way I work is the right way. Just that it
gives me minimal problems to work this way. I'd love to change to an OSX
version of Emailer and Claris Home Page but it looks as if that won't
happen soon.

I have a copy of "Disk Warrior" and a copy of "Drive Genius". So far,
"Disk Warrior" has saved a local graphics designer from losing a lot of
work on his G4. I haven't had to use them myself. I simply bought them as
"insurance".
