There is another, and much easier, option available through ISPs
affiliated to iPass.

When I am using, say, an hotel's free WiFi sending is of course a pain.
However I then log onto iPass's Outbound Email Registration page by
entering my User ID and Password (the same used with my ISP). Here is
what they say on the page:

'To enable your email program to send outbound emails via our SMTP mail
server, you will need to register your current roaming address with our
server.

All you need to do is enter your User ID and Password in the spaces
below, click the "Register on Server" button, and if you have entered
the correct ID, then you just wait about 30 seconds before sending mail
from your system.

The registration will last for about 30 minutes, provided that you do
not disconnect and reconnect - this will change the Internet Address you
are roaming from, and you will have to re-register with the server.'

To anyone who travels frequently it is a godsend as it avoids the need
to revert to webmail.
