What are your intended use(s)? Do you paint with a tablet, for example?

- For painting, you can try Photoshop Elements ($90):

- or, if you don't want to spend that much, check out Color It! ($60):

I have used Color It! since OS 7.5 days and found it to be much easier
to use than Photoshop Elements.

Another possibility if you use OS 10.4 might be Paintbrush, but it is
still in a "pre-release" form:

For drawing (vector graphics), there are several programs. Some focus
more on "CAD" (computer-aided design) functions, others on
"Illustrator"-type uses. I'll assume that you mean more the latter.

Check these out (they all have demo downloads) to see which (if any)
will do what you need. It may also depend upon which OS you're using. I
hesitate to recommend one over another because they have somewhat
different features and requirements. Intaglio seems to get the SLIGHTLY
better reviews on VersionTracker, though all of these rate a 4.0 or
better. (You can also check macupdate.com for user reviews.)

- Intaglio (103.9-10.4; some features require 10.4) $89

- Lineform from Freeverse, the noted Mac game developer (10.3.9 +) $80

- EazyDraw (10.2-10.4) $95

Another, Inkscape, is still in beta form. It's free, but a review note
says that it doesn't really work in 10.3.9. It gets 3.6/5 at
VersionTracker.
