James,

LXC containers are used by the emane demonstrations to provide network
stack isolation. Network stack isolation is required to route traffic
between NEMs using the virtual interfaces created by emanetransportd
(emane0 interfaces). We use large testbeds that run one instance of
emane and emanetransportd per physical machine, other testbeds that run
full VMs - each running one instance of emane and emanetransportd, and
other testbeds that use LXC containers.

The demonstrations were never intended to be used as a testbed
experiment control system. Their purpose is to allow training attendees
to gain hands on experience using emane without worrying about the
details of experiment deployment.

You can verify correct installation by setting up a simple two NEM
experiment using the method most appropriate for your testbed in order
to supply the required network stack isolation. The demonstrations can
act as a guide for configuring emane XML.
