I found the problem. Mea culpa :)
FYI, there was a line in the fink package that made symlinks to all
the dynamic libraries as follows:
ln -s EMBOSS/lib{ajax,ajaxg,nucleus,plplot}.dylib /lib
So I never found that when I searched for the string libplplot. It's
all fixed now.
