Ken,

I tried Paul's suggestion, and that allowed EMC2 to then compile correctly.
In both first encountering the error and then getting a good compile I did a
standard cvs checkout of HEAD, then:
./configure --enable-run-in-place --disable-python

Followed by 'make'.

I can check that back in, unless you would like me to stay out of the way if
you are still making changes in there.
