I want a house, a new car, and some time to work on emc2. :P joke aside, I think it's nice that someone works on classicladder, so far whoever did the HAL-ification for it, never wanted to do it again :D So we have (including you) 3 different versions modified by 3 different people ;) Maybe it would be nice if the HAL changes can be made in such a way that the original author (Marc Le Douarain) considers merging them in his project. That way new features on classicladder are easier to incorporate.. (just my 2 cents)
Regarding the branch, I see no issue in doing that..
