Hello Folks,

I'm currently supporting a student who is doing his bachelor thesis at a company which uses sercos III [1] for the automation of machines. We have the task to integrate support for the Ethernet-based field bus sercos III into EMC. The goal is to use EMC to control a machine with sercos III servo drives and IO-devices. We are currently planning how we can achieve this, which software is needed and has to be adpted, etc. .

To prevent that the same work is done twice, I'd like to ask, if somebody of You has heard of a similar integration approach?

I already found an attempt for the integration of EtherCAT [2]. What we like to do is very similar, but for sercos and of course supporting servo-drives.

Our development will be based on COSEMA [3], an open-source sercos III master implementation by Bosch-Rexroth. COSEMA which will do the low level communication and protocol handling for us.

I'm also looking for an overview of software components in EMC2, since I'd like to know which components are there, run in real-time, use HAL and so on. There is an overview [4] but it seems to be relatively old. Is this one still relevant or does somebody already have a newer version of this overview?

Thank you very much in advance

Regards
        Michael
