On the machines I've personally seen or helped with, this can always be fixed by adding kernel command line arguments. I think "lapic" is the magic one that usually works. Is your experience otherwise? I'm torn: I'd hate for us to have two separate distributions. I miss the old (single processor) kernel that ran on EVERYTHING. I also would hate to give up SMP support.
