I like "cnc" it is generic and short. putting the full name linuxcnc is needlessly long.

I'd love to have a shorter alternative to "linuxcnc" for use in command names etc. "cnc" is pretty good, and i'd think it's generic enough that we don't have to fear litigation. But my track record at guessing laws is pretty bad, and as has been pointed out, being in the right legally is probably less important than avoiding being targetted by the economic weapon of litigation.
