Hi, EBo.

Yes, that was I.

The fellow's name is Sergey Kaydalov. He has a tale of woe concerning a
breakdown in the relationship between him and his local CNC manufacturer
who had provided him with the 2440 boards. The manufacturer took back
the boards and Sergey has stopped development both for lack of hardware
and for the reasons below.

He has sent two messages to me so far but I don't believe it is proper
etiquette simply to forward them to this group since he believed he was
talking to just me.

Let me paraphrase:

1) he was discouraged by the lack of real interest, e.g., no one has
said "I've run your software on my board and a real machine and here's
what I like/don't like/think needs improvement/etc." If you look at the
comments posted to the sourceforge site, you'll see he was getting the
usual dweeb responses that show up when people post to Instructables.com
and elsewhere. He says he is not a CNC expert and doesn't have real
experience in the CNC field so he needs this feedback to keep going.

2) he was discouraged by the disparaging responses concerning his Web
interface. Apparently folks have berated him for not developing a
board-connected TFT display.

3) If there are some people who are ready to help him
using/testing/developing the project he thinks he would find a way to
get the hardware he needs and keep working on miniemc2. He already has
some ideas of what he would do next.

Frankly, I have no idea what his resources are and what resources he is
seeking, but he sounded very discouraged and surely could use some kind
words. He did mention that he probably would have made more progress had
he reached out beyond Russia to create a user community. I did tell him
that his work has been mentioned on emc-developers during discussions
about ARM-based systems. I'm guessing he hasn't been monitoring this list.

As for his Web interface, in my opening message to him I expressed my
interest in porting the Web server to my x86-based LinuxCNC system and
putting it through its paces. I also asked if he were willing to see his
Web interface code added to the LinuxCNC project, either to the base or
as an experimental add-on, and he did not demur.

In his last message 4 days ago, he said he would prepare and send to me
the Web server code asap. I was just getting ready to follow up on that
when I saw your message here. I'll certainly keep the list informed.

In the meantime, those of you who are interested in his miniemc2 work
should say so on his site. The comments are a bit hidden. Look at the
bottom of

http://code.google.com/p/miniemc2/wiki/PageName

Of course, we can also suggest he participate in the ARM discussions on
this list.

Regards,
Kent
