Some additional comments: I have partly designed a GUI in Glade for up to 10 linuxCNC-nodes There we have some object oriented stuff to take care of and with it the callback mechanisms.
The tutorial I mentioned is written by John Thornton and covers part of what I believe is needed to create a fairly efficient interface. I will put what I sofar have done on some site, maybe my own... About Python i use the extensive tutorials on the dot-org site.
