Roger, I am interested in what you are doing. I have taken a couple of stabs at a generic remote front end for Linuxcnc, first in Java and more recently in Python. They never got close to production ready, however. I do not need the coordination you mentioned, but do need the ability for a single user interface to point to more than one machine. It only needs to point to one machine at a time, but they could be running different versions of Linuxcnc.
I do have a proprietary front end using the linuxcncrsh and halrmt interfaces, so have probably solved some of the issues you are likely to encounter. You could always post your work to github as an independent project with the option of rolling it into Linuxcnc if desired and appropriate. Regards, Eric Have been busy developing code to the linuxCNC Cluster-controller mentioned about a month ago. State of the project: - Certain tools are tested and some coding in python has been done based on the GladePython tutorial on the linuxcnc-site. - The python socket interface have also been lightly tested. - The linuxcncrsh-interface have also been partly verified over telnet. I have on the other hand found out that coding in python is different from C-coding and that I knew, but it differs more than I expected... Neiter are the object oriented mechanisms fully understoood, so... Why not convert it to an opensource project ? ;-) I have neither done such a thing before so there might be good with some advice there too...
