The linking issue is related to gcc 4.7, and requires use of gcc 4.6
to build properly (at least on Debian Wheezy).  I'm not sure if any of
you will be running into this issue when using newer Ubuntu systems,
but you might want to watch out for it.

Between my varied mix of build systems, test platforms, and walking
away for too long I had forgotten about the required GCC version when
running builds on a new machine.  <sigh>
