Last time you shared your thoughts about the board, I spelled out my own thoughts about what the board should be and do. I won't copy the message here but you can find it at http://article.gmane.org/gmane.linux.distributions.emc.user/32605/ especially the first indented section after "The things I think the board should handle are...:". At the end, also note "I think it will be valuable, after this discussion about what we want the board to be, to have a new election, as we are certainly overdue." This is still how I feel, and I am afraid last time it came up, there was a lot of distraction because of the rename, and no discussion happened. Maybe with that renaming dust settled, it is time to have this conversation, and once again, I urge people to share their thoughts. I see you urged the same thing: "I also encourage the community at large to consider a board's role, and spell out their expectations" I also want to gently ask you, in particular, to participate in that discussion. In the thread containing the message I pointed to above, you did not continue to participate (unless gmane missed something, as it sometimes does) after you sent the initial message. Go ahead and spell out what you think the board should do -- think of it this way: What should the bylaws be? I think concentrating on that question gives us the best chance of having a productive discussion (I changed the subject to reflect that.) I summarized something like "What should the bylaws be?" in that earlier message. Further, I think the existing board should do one of two things: 1. After this discussion, assuming we come to some answers, amend the bylaws to reflect the updated ideas of what the board should do, and have an election (we should not have an election without updated bylaws - how could one decide whether to run and take on unknown future responsibilities?) 2. Dissolve, and revert to a simple ad-hoc meritocracy. Yes I realize this is probably controversial but I think it is an approach the community should consider openly.
