To follow up John, after setting some limits, I homed it to my gauge with
its offsets.

Then I loaded up a routine that I last used to make a 1/4-28 thread, with
some fiddlng with touch off, that I used to make the last #209 nipple
thread, which is 1/4-28 in the breech plug. The factory nipple is .248" in
diameter, and my file said .249. I chucked up and centered a 1/4" rod, and
ran the program. I wound up with a .249 diameter measurement and a 1/4-28
nut wouldn't screw on easily. So I edited the file & changed its target
value to .248. Ran it again. A factory nut acted like it was hitting a
burr or 7, but screwed on just fine with perhaps a thou worth of thread
play. A new grade 12 bolt wouldn't have been any better.

And no putzing with touch-off. Whats not to like, running at 700 revs
because the whole 3 foot stick was in the chuck, the thread finish was
quite decent, but 1000 revs on a shorter stick would have been better yet.
That is still probably low by CSS std's, whatever they are.

Now I need a project <grin>.

I could probably make yet another new locking bolt and striker for my Black
Diamond, but I think, because its for #209 primer usage, I'd probably need
an FFL to sell it. Sigh.

Cheers, Gene
