I forgot to mention...by way of example, I took the Debian root file
system I create for the BeagleBone MachineKit images and ran it on an
Altera dual-core Cyclone-5 (FPGA + ARM SoC) by using the Altera kernel
and boot loader.  Once the kernel is running, the user-space can be
identical across a wide variety of parts.
