Kirk, I will let others chime in that are more up to date, but do take a look at the work that Yishin LiA has done on his LinuxCNC ArtekBranch. I believe his focus is on the USB connected FPGA-NURBS controller, but I do remember him talking about getting ridged tapping working at one point. Since a lot of that work is based off of NURBS, converting a single-point threading tool from conventional threading to tapered is as simple as multiplying the NURB control points by their conical projection... Hmmm... that explanation is about as clear as mud... Let me try again. If you can base your motion profiles on NURBS, then it is a simple operation to convert a circle to a thread helix to a tapered thread helix by a single efficient mathematical transformation. It may be possible taking this approach to write a G76 to NURB function whose output is the NURB representation. Just a thought.
