It may be that a fresh mobo is the fix, ISTR having HD0/SDA problems once before, but I would have though those bugs had been introduced to a can of Raid by now. The machine itself is both old & just different enough to make access difficult. > > On Jun 21 2015 11:06 AM, Gene Heskett wrote: > > First, to those of you who's seed found fertile ground and sprouted, > > Happy Fathers Day. > > > > Now a simulation of the boot screen I am getting after installing > > the binary-hybrid.iso from a dvd, twice as described. > > ==================================== > > loading Grub > > Welcome to Grub2 > > > > error; out of disk > > entering rescue > > Grub rescue> > > ===================================== > > At which point you can type anything you want, command not found, > > except for ls, which oddly returns > > > > (hd0) (hd0(dos32)) (fd0) > > (or something similar, I can make a paper copy and bring it in if it > > would mean anything) is returned. > > > > I have now done 2 installs, one with the drive (a 500Gb Maxtor) > > jumpered for "CS" with the 80 wire cables Master connector plugged > > into > > it, nothing on the slave connector, done in graphical mode and, and > > once > > with the jumper set for Master, and the Master connector on the 80 > > wire > > cable plugged in and an empty save connector.
