Consult my lathes .hal file for a tutorial. :)

And existing "net" name statement as shown in that list cannot be
re-used?

Bummer.

But I have no clue when they are created since the first reference to a
given net name is expected to have the source of the signal as the next
argument on that same line that creates the net label. Creating a net
name in the wrong order can and has bit me. :(

Thats the key phrase thats not in bright green text in the hal manual.
It "otter" be. :)

Shouldn't this example be
[HALUI]
halui.mdi-command-00=G0X0Y0Z0
halui.mdi-comamnd-01= some other idiocy?

Just trying to get the syntax wired into my wet ram...

Understatements. :) The stuff that goes with the camview "align" kit
could be in that category. I recall starting out with the feedrate set
at 1% so I could interrupt a crash. Didn't have to.

Camera:
I have another camera thats physically larger, but it might fit in the
hollow bottom of the head casting. But without milling out the bottom
of the slot in the post, I'm not sure the head can go low enough to get
close enough to see well. Its also a high-def, 1920x1240 or so, and
painfully slow on a USB2 circuit when hooked to one of the D-525 boards.
How much lag that would cause is TBD. This ancient athlon64-x2 boards
top USB speed is 2.0 I believe & only has 4 ports, so I suspect its all
in one "hub". Due to socket limits, I might have to revert to a ps2
mouse. I wonder if there is such a beast as a USB3 pci card?, that
might help.

I bought a full set of R8's, must be 15 or 20 lbs of them with the mill.
Can the drawbar of an R8 make it grip them tight enough to certify no
slippage? I may waste a tap and find out. But I believe the minimum
size is 1/8" (3.75mm) and one tap I have several of is even smaller, its
an 0-80. I'll have to measure its shank to be sure though. That would
be the ultimate acid test.

In the smaller sizes, the force of compressing the tips would appear to
be absorbed if the fit isn't good, thats a pretty thick piece of steel
to be springing inward to exert a good grip. A very thin film of EP
grease on the cone and its internal threads might help if it can be kept
out of the tool bore.

Thats a bit too posh, I can easily rack up another $250 for a full kit of
that. OTOH, it would not surprise me to find the ER32 can grip 10x
tighter than an R8. The adaptor is a $20 bill, and I get the impression
it is too small for the ER32. ER16 maybe, but they are rarer. Probably
a better matching deal considering the torque available in this machines
spindle though. I'll look around.

But since I tried to see some perseids last night, its 2nd cuppa time.

Thanks Andy.
