Good to know, I had not thought about this problem. My Ubuntu 15.04 
comes with the gtk 3.14. It should not be a big deal to set everything 
to gtk 3.4

You are right, there is no benefit in making porting to the GTK. I just 
wanted to add the ability to configure the section HALUI through 
stepconf. But I did not want to work on one thing too old (lib gtk2) 
with the risk that soon the program would no longer work with latest 
linux version.
