Hello, all,

I have a customer who bought one of my Universal Stepper
Controller boards. He got a Startech PCIe parallel port,
and couldn't get it to work. He sent it to me, same
result. I suggested a SIIG parallel port card. He had one
of those shipped to me, same result, which surprised me.
I've had good luck with SIIG cards for a long time.

I have tried using both my pcisetup program and Kirk
Wallace's showport to put it in EPP mode, but it still
doesn't work. Putting a scope on it, I can see serious
things wrong. Normally, the strobe (either ADDRSTB/ or
DATASTB/) goes low, then the board responds by raising WAIT/
and the cycle ends when the parport card senses the high
state of WAIT/. Well, my board never even gets to send
WAIT/ high, the ADDRSTB or DATASTB/ ends in about 300 ns.
Normally, it takes 600 - 800 ns for such a cycle, if WAIT/
responds. If WAIT/ does NOT respond, then the cycle is
supposed to hold for about 10 us before timing out.

The board works fine with a SIIG PCI (not express) parallel
port card.

All of these PCIe boards use the Oxford OXPCIe952 chip.

Has anybody run into this with the PCIe cards in EPP mode?
Any ideas how to make it work right?

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Jon
