Great! Can you do the same with all the other entries? :-)

That actually sounds like quite a lot of work, so that wasn't a
serious suggestion.

As far as I can see, 2.8 builds on Debian without any problems other
than libgl1-* and passes all but 2 runtests after a few run-time
dependencies are satisfied.
(One of them, python-gtksourceview2 can be installed from the Sid
repo, the others from native Buster)

Tonight the plan is to look in detail at those two failed tests. On my
test system I actually see more failed tests with Stretch, but there
is a fair chance that is a bit of a messed up system.
I will also look into the possibility of repartitioning that test
system (It has two parports and one of each type of Mesa card
installed) to dual-boot Buster.
