Actual "minutes" or just a slightly long time? I am seeing the same
thing at the moment, but didn't before I tried to configure the WiFi
dongle on the test machine.

That's annoying. Does it allow you to force 1440 x 900 with (for
example) xrandr ?

Even with standard installations it's a constant fight to get a useful
resolution in VMs on my Mac.
