If the flag is set, it would read the current state of the registers and

This does depend on there being a matching read for the write, and is only
really useful for unconnected pins.
I haven't done it as I am not sure that it is useful.
That would be a nice feature, but I don't know if it's necessary and if
not if would make the thinks more complicated than needed.

Maybe registers like that has to be initialized by the user.
So maybe a separate component which builds an int from several bits is
more helpful (as it can also be used with mb2hal e.g.)
