If this passes then we would probably have no alternative but to not
allow the use of LinuxCNC in Washington State.

I see no way at all for LinuxCNC to comply. But I also see no way at
all to prevent the use of LinuxCNC in Wa.

Neither can I, Andy.  Leave it to a lawyer who hasn't a clue how complex a problem
that actually is.

Something in the water on the left coast that washes away anything that resembles
common sense?

When I was still working, I was a CET  who was placed at the tv station as Chief Engineer by a broadcast industry head hunter in '84.  I had been to the left coast a couple times so
I was familiar with the scene.

That same head hunter called me up in the later 90's and offered me that chair at KTLA, the #2 station in the country.  I was then making around $50k here in West Vrginia and
everything was running smoothly where I was.

At the time that was about $20k higher than similar sized stations were paying. The offer from KTLA  was $125K.  I thought about it for maybe 30 seconds and said no.  And I've
never regretted it.

I didn't feel like wearing armor to keep my back from growing knives for however long it might have lasted.  My 3rd wife was born in a house about an air mile from this one, and transplanting her COPD to LA's legendarily bad air would have been a death sentence.

Cheers, Gene Heskett, CET.
