Mel,
UL1492, the standard for Audio-Video Products and Accessories may have the
answer for you on page 73, table 38.1. That table states that it depends on the
application that the transformer is used for. Power, motor, and high-frequency
transformers are to meet UL1411, and signal and coupling transformers are to
meet UL 1876. Several notes apply, so it is important to read the table.

I referred to UL 1492 because it is the standard which supersedes (or is in the
process of superseding) UL 1270 (Radio Receivers, Audio Systems, and
Accessories), UL1409 (Low-Voltage Video Products without Cathode-Ray Tubes),
and UL 1410 (Television Receivers and High-Voltage Video Products).

Sorry, I have no inputs regarding CSA, nor Europe.

Hello good emc-pstc people:

I have a question about line isolation transformers for consumer audio
products. We are a transformer manufacturer, but the vast majority of our
applications are for ITE equipment. My question is,

1) for UL & CSA approvals, what standard does an isolation transformer need to
meet for consumer and professional audio products? I am currently referring to
UL 1411 "Transformers and Motor Transformers for Use in Audio-, Radio-, and
Television-Type Appliances". I want to make sure that this is the correct
standard, i.e. is it the most current standard? What about for CSA?

2) for that matter, what about Europe? Is there much movement in harmonization
for approvals for this type of product between the US, Canada, and Europe?

Thank you much for all your help.
