Hello:
In an effort to come up with a `standard wire Color Code' inside
our control systems we have been comparing, NFPA `Electrical
Standard for Industrial Machinery' 1994 Edition section 16 Wiring
methods and practices, with UL 1950 and IEC 204-1 (sec. 15.2).
I have been advised that EN60950 has no color requirements inside
a device other than the Protective Earth (PE) , Green/yellow and
Light Blue for neutral.
Are there any accepted harmonized wire color code standards for eg:
1 USA: 2 Black wires 208/240vac
Europe: ?? (They use neutral is not required in our
system although may be used)
2 DC voltage and control wires??
We have used the following. Does anyone see a problem or have any
suggestions?
Wire Color Code - for electrical panels and enclosure wiring.
Brown (international): (Black USA) = Highest AC Power
Light Blue (international): (White USA)= AC Neutral
Green/Yellow (Green USA) = AC Safety PE Ground or Chassis Ground
Yellow = AC control powered from outside source
Red = AC Power at a lower voltage than line voltage
(230 VAC = black than 120 VAC = red)
Blue = +24 VDC (power and control)
White/Blue = 24 VDC Return
White/Red = +5 VDC (power and control)
White/Black = 5 VDC Return
Gray = +12 VDC (power and control)
White/Gray = 12 VDC Return
Thanks for any advice you may have!
