Bill:
Canon is currently labeling all applicable products in accordance with
ICES-003, Issue 2.
ICES-003, Issue 2 applies to all digital apparatus (except as exempted
in section 1.2.2) manufactured in or imported into Canada after August
13, 1994. However, compliance with ICES-003, Issue 1 constitutes
compliance with Issue 2 if determined prior to April 1, 1995.
Section 6.2 of ICES-003, Issue 2 states "A written notice indicating
compliance must accompany each unit of digital apparatus to the end
user. The notice shall be in the form of a label that is affixed to
the apparatus. Where because of insufficient space or other
restrictions it is not feasible to affix a label to the apparatus, the
notice may be in the form of a statement included in the user's
manual. A suggested text for the notice, in English and in French, is
provided in the Annex."
Also, according to an Industry Canada (IC) memo written by Mr. Garth
Roberts, the labeling requirement of ICES-003, Issue 2 was not
enforced until April 1, 1996.
A copy of ICES-003, Issue 2 is available from IC at:
DOSP-P
Industry Canada
300 Slater Street
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0C8
The technical requirements are similar to FCC Part 15.
Good luck and best regards,

Subject: New Canadian Marking Requirement?

I have just been told that a standard, ICES-003 issue 02, has been
released which requires manufacturers to add yet another marking
to our digital products (if there is enough space). It's not a
symbol. It's an complete sentence.
It also requires the statement to exist in product manuals along
with shipping a written notice of compliance with each unit. I
suppose we would add this statement to the already existing D of
C.
Is anyone doing this now?
