Jeff,

Yes I agree with you in that placing "standard PCs" in an industrial
environment is certainly not a wise move.

Remember that the overlying emphasis of the EMC Directive is to establish a
minimum set of requirements for an "intended" enviroment a manufacturer is
targeting for a specific product. There is no law forbidding a typcial PC from
entering into a heavy industrial environment. However, upon doing so, one must
be prepared for the probable consequences of operation degradation and product
damage. On the other hand, it is highly unlikely that heavy industrial
equipment will find their way into a residential environment.

BTW, the PCs intended for the industrial environment that I've encountered are
typcially rack-mountable and built like a battleship.

These are just some opinions from someone still learning how to push a rope,
but I confess, not spending a lot of time at it.

 Best regards,
 Ron Pickard

Has anyone had experience finding a PC that will stand up to immunity
levels for the industrial environment (i.e. EN50082-2)? This seems to
be an ongoing problem for me.

1) does such a beast exist in a standard PC form?
2) do I have to find a suitable industrial PC? (i.e. from a company
such as Stealth Computer)

Although it may not be the wisest choice to use a standard PC on an
industrial shop floor I am fairly certain that you can find them there.
