Hi Jim,

It's nice to hear from you.

 So, that bothers you, huh?

I believe that that EN50082-1 provision was provided because there is no one
that knows the product as well as the manufacturer. I also believe that its
writers knew that, too. Having others outside of the manufacturer (say the
test
lab) stipulate the immunity failure criteria could arbitrarily and negatively
affect the outcome of the immunity tests.

Please remember that the term "manufacturer" applies not only to the
production
segment, but to all segments that make up the greater organization. Your EMC
group is an integral part of that organization.

In fact, you just stated that your EMC group, as a part of manufacturer, do
this very thing. Your group internally sets specific requirements based on
specific performance criteria. Are these performance (failure) criteria then
 relayed to the test lab?

 Comments?

Just a few cents worth of my opinions.

 Best regards,
 Ron Pickard

What bothers me about the criteria in EN 50082-1 is the provision for the
manufacturer to define the permissible loss of performance. This opens the door
for the manufacturer to simply relax the product specification to "pass" the
test. Luckily, our EMC group generally inputs the EMC requirements into our
product specifications so that we have the opportunity to define reasonable
performance criteria.

Hi Richard,

You are RIGHT! I agree with the word "precedence".
It would be the best, I think, if all of them sing at the same tone.

According to the Basic standards, the criteria in the Generic standard
takes
preceident over the criteria in the basic standard, so there really is no
conflict even though they do differ.
