Darrell,

I would take a step back and ask "how does my company confirm that the plastic
part we ordered meets our specs ?" Does
incoming inspection check the cert attached with the shipment and keep a record
that they cross-checked it with a
component specification or purchase order ? Did the supplier sign a contract
that specifies all parts type "xyz" are
made of a specific type of plastic ? Whatever method you use internally to
satisfy that the part meets your
specification should satisfy the agency inspector. I would check with your
incoming inspection dept., purchasing, or
quality depts.

Subject: Plastics Cert Documentation

Dear Fellow Members,

We have a plethora of plastic subassemblies, produced by outside
vendors, that are received and stocked in our factory. We must keep
certs of flammability on file for each shipment of every plastic part to
satisfy UL, CSA, and TUV factory inspectors. This involves sorting and
filing lots of paper and maintaing a long row of filing cabinets. The
method seems cumbersome in this electronic age. Does anyone have
experience with easier methods of tracking these certs that is also
acceptable to the agencies.

Thanks very much

Darrell Locke
