There is one factor which I haven't seen mentioned in the discussion. I believe the original query stated that the connector(s) would involve a motor. If so, wouldn't there be some concern about vibration? This isn't my field but I'd be reluctant to use wire nuts under those conditions unless I could find expert assurances that such connections are still safe.
