I'm using 3101 and IEC 1010 as my standards for this unit.
I have a circuit that has a 11 Watt heater. It has a thermal
protector installed for safety only. Regulation for the heater
is done by software control.
The thermal protector is VDE approved and UL recognized. Although
it has UL, it has not been tested for the 100,000 cycles which I
believe is required to use it as a safety device.
Questions:
1) Would this circuit meet 3101 and IEC 1010 as is?
2) Must I add a single fault protection device (FUSE) to this circuit
also ?
3) If I have the Thermal Protector tested for 100,000 cycles can I
use it without a fuse?
4) The thermal protector is rated 20 degrees higher than the
heaters maximum temperature capability. Are there any
specific requirements that address this issue from a safety
point of view ? (Use a smaller rated protector or bigger heater?)
5) If I can get away with using this circuit as is, will my data be
bogus when I perform the Normal Temperature Test ?
NOTE: (The Normal Temperature Test monitors temperature rise on safety
critical components)
