Slightly off topic but of historical note on welding
emissions.
Oddly enough, (at least this is what a prominent
retired VDE Engineer told me) the whole EMI thing
started in Germany in the late 40's/early 50's because
of an automobile manufacturing plant and the emissions
generated by the welding process. Apparently the
welding process emissions interfered with "listening"
efforts of western intelligence as the plant was near
the east/west border of cold-war Europe. This resulted
in the legal implementation of VDE class A limits.
