Nick, et al, Dare I suggest this? Why don't we create a large standards depository on the web and have all of these standards hyper-linked together. Then, for a reasonable subscription fee, one could log in and read any standard in existence. Best of all, one could take the hyper-jump to that specialist standard to see what it says.
This way, any standards writing group could access any specialist document by reference only, i.e. "Perform test 2.7.3 in IEC 60990. Results must exceed level specified in Table 3 of EN 60950." Then, one jumps to the specialist test, follows the directions, and returns whence one came. Another benefit is not having to keep current on which paper version you have on-hand this week, not to mention the savings on storage space. To make that process work that much easier is another business opportunity. Imagine a Palm Pilot, or equivalent, permanently connected to that great standard in ether-space. Connected by digital wireless, cellular, satellite or analog wire circuits. One could go anywhere, test anything, to any standard without ever being concerned about currency of the standards being used or not having a particular standard on hand. I'd call it S.A.T.E. - Standards Anywhere Test Everything. Just a little levity, and not so far-fetched at that. I don't intend to make a big thing about this, but I'm not convinced by your arguments and in the hope that you (or someone else) will be able to make arguments which can show me the error of my ways, I'd make the following comments: >>> remainder deleted to save space. <<< --------- This message is coming from the emc-pstc discussion list.
