Hi Ron and All, I have delayed posting info because things are still in a little bit of flux. There were meetings in Washington,D.C. on February 11 and 12 with representatives from the US and BCIQ (now BSMI). There has been agreement that once letters have been exchanged between the US and Taiwan, NVLAP will expand its scope to include accreditation to CNS13438.
The overall Asian Pacific Economic Community MRA covers only Telecom products. A separate agreement and exchange of letters between the US and Taiwan will expand the scope to include ITE products as well, but this agreement only covers the US & Taiwan. Under the agreement, BSMI in Taiwan will have the authority to expand their scope to include the FCC approved test methods for ITE equipment. Conversely, NVLAP will have the same ability. The agreement does not mean that labs that currently have NVLAP Accreditation will automatically be accepted by BSMI, there are some additional requirements that must be met. When I left Washington, they were working out the details. There was still the Telecom authority in Taiwan that needed to be dealt with in order to get the entire process underway, but things should be rolling pretty quickly.
