Hi Group,
I am responsible for EMC compliance on our products and need expert advise on the need to comply with EN 61000-3-2 Harmonics and EN 61000-3-3 Flicker. We manufacture a variety of products for the printing industry,(laser imaging products and scanners). The products we sell are expensive ($200k+ US) and are sold to printing companies, not consumers. They would be considered for the professional market. They are usually cord connected with special connectors so they have dedicated circuits. Here are some general features of our products;
1) price range $200k - $300k US
2) peak power consumption 1.2kW -2,5kW
3) standby power 700W - 1.2kW
3) industrial market or light industrial
4) size of equipment 2-3m long by 1-3m wide
5) normal cycle of operation generates varying load on the mains (voltage fluctuations)

Q1-Do we have to show compliance to EN 61000-3-2 harmonics or can we state the product is professional and over 1kW peak power?

Q2-If we can make that statement should it be put in the manual or on the DOC?

Q3-Do we need to show compliance to EN 61000-3-3 flicker or can we state the product is professional and exempt from the standard?

Q4-Some of our products do not pass flicker because of variations in the current draw as the machine goes through its normal operation, can we label the machine non compliant and still ship into Europe?

Q5-If the machine is non compliant can we put a statement in the manual or label the product? If so what does the label say?

Q6-What is the intent of the statement "...intended to be connected to public low-voltage distribution systems."? Does it mean residential?

I would greatly appreciate any input to these questions as I need to make the decision very soon to spend money to correct products that do not meet these standards. I need to know what our most cost effective route is to selling compliant systems into Europe.

Cheers,
Ray Levasseur
