What are the requirements for electronics used in refueling operations
--
either gasoline or diesel. Is this always a hazardous location? What
separation issues exist from other connected electronics also used there?
What specific certifications are applicable -- both in North America and
 Europe?

Looking forward to your comments. >>

Regarding US requirements:
-NEC Article 500 applies
-hazardous locations are defined in detail in NFPA 497
-an excellent resource is the NFPA publication "Electrical Installations in
Hazardous Locations" their stock #F6-HLH-97
-some other NFPA documents may apply, e.g. NFPA 407 Aircraft Fuel Servicing

Re EU requirements:
-look at the ATEX directive
-look at EN1127-1
