Seems like I remember a trade magazine editorial many years ago when Hertz was first being used in the US by NASA. This editor was of the opinion that Steinmetz was the first practical user of alternating current systems and thus deserved the honor more than Hertz. Since Steinmetzes was a bit of a mouthful he proposed using only his initials as an abbreviation. Steinmetz was named Charles P. which abbreviated to CPS.
