I read in !emc-pstc that John Woodgate <[email protected]> wrote (in
<[email protected]>) about 'My departure', on Thu, 15
Nov 2001:

I am grateful for all the messages of support I received, both here and
by e-mail. I am going to a standards meeting all next week, so I shall
almost certainly be out of communication anyway, irrespective of
whether, on further consideration, I change my decision.

Meanwhile, Bill Shakespeare put my thoughts into the mouth of Marcus
Cassius, during his spat with Brutus before the Battle of Phillipi:

'Checked like a bondman: all his faults observed
Set in a notebook, learned and conn'd by rote
To cast into my teeth.'

I have previously posted the following to this group:

However, I place on record that I NEVER intend any offence, especially
on this mail list, whatever you may infer from what I write.

It is strange, indeed, that one can post wildly inaccurate, even
dangerous, information here with impunity, but you are not allowed to
post 'Stuff and nonsense!' or words to that effect.

Incidentally, did Bill invent, in the rhetoric of Cassius and Mark
Antony, the concept of 'spin-doctoring'?
