Monitoring the field during test is appropriate, as a sanity check if nothing else.
However, the actual field calibration and 're-play' requires measuring the forward power, not the signal generator level. Sections 6.2 and 8 of the standard specify forward power. Remember that the forward power is going to vary depending on the match of the load (antenna), so a fixed signal generator output is not necessarily an indication of the forward power. Even with the same antenna, the impedance changes with change in geometry caused by placing an EUT in the field, especially in the near field. Bob Martin, P.E., N.C.E.
