David,

Besides legal precedent and the various Directives, several other good
resources to help you to formulate an answer for your bosses are:

1) "Guide to The Implementation of Directives Based on new Approach and
Global Approach" published 7/15/199 by the European Commission"
2) "Guidelines on the Application of Council Directive 89/336/EEC of 3 May
1989 on the Approximation of the Laws of the Member States Relating to
Electromagnetic Compatibility" issued 1997 by the European Commission.
3) Technical Report TR/74 "A Guide to the application of the EMC Directive
ot ITE" issued June 1999 by ECMA (European Computer Manufacturers
Association)
4) GCR 01-813 "A Guide to the EU Directive on Electromagnetic Compatibility"
Applicable since January 1, 1996 by NIST (National Institute of Standards &
Technology).
5) "Guide to the EMC Directive 89/336/EEC" Chris Marshman, published 1992
IEEE Press
