Not Additional protection, essential protection.... A number of plugs now 
have a sleeve on the live and neutral pins that stop even inadvertant contact 
during the insertion process. Something I do frequently with US plugs... I 
have changed all my 230 volt US connectors in my home for English ones. They 
are just safer.
